Nutritional Basics


Below is a list of fundamental nutritional guidelines. They are the foundation of a healthy lifestyle.

  • ALWAYS EAT BREAKFAST

  • EAT VERY 2-3 HOURS - DAILY

  • BE AWARE OF CARBOHYDRATE (SUGAR) INTAKE EACH DAY

  • LIMIT THE AMOUNT OF FATTY FOODS (FRIED FOODS, SWEETS, WHOLE MILKS, ETC.)

  • HAVE A PORTION OF PROTEIN, CARBOHYDRATE, AND VEGETABLE OR HEALTHY UNSATURATED FAT WITH EACH MEAL

  • DRINK A MINIMUM OF AN OUNCE OF WATER DAILY FOR EACH POUND OF BODY WEIGHT (IN POUNDS)

  • TRY TO EAT AT LEAST 4 TO 5 SERVINGS OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLES EACH DAY (1 SERVING IS A SMALL PIECE OF FRUIT AND A CUP OF VEGETABLES)

  • MOST OF ALL, HAVE FUN AND BE CREATIVE IN YOUR EATING. HEALTHY EATING DOES NOT HAVE TO BE BORING OR PUNISHMENT. YOU CAN GET GREAT RECIPES OFF THE INTERNET OR IN ANY BOOKSTORE OR LIBRARY.

Important Note Regarding Carbonated Drinks

Next time you reach for a carbonated soda think about this, carbonation neutralizes the stomachs hydrochloric acid, preventing the breakdown of nutrients as well as the bodies ability to absorb them, which depletes several important elements such as magnesium, potassium, and selenium causing deficiencies, irregular heart beats, or cramping, and it weakens bones and teeth. How about a glass of cranberry juice diluted with water instead?
